Welcome!
Hi! I'm Jonathan Shay. I'm a licensed psychologist who specializes in helping folks with ADHD find and capitalize on the motivation needed to live a full life. As someone with ADHD, I know that starting a new career, becoming a parent, or surviving school can be overwhelming. I understand how it feels to be overwhelmed by folding laundry, avoid new things I might struggle to complete, and feel lazy even when I want to give more. If these sound familiar, know that these exeperinces don't have to define you. My approach to therapy is focused on identifying and building upon your existing strengths and resources to help you move through anxiety, depression, and the chaos that comes with attention problems. I draw on evidence-based treatments, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in my work, but give equal attention to making sure you feel understood and safe through the process. Together, we will develop a personalized plan of action that considers your unique circumstances and goals. Whether you are navigating ADHD, OCD, a major life change, relationship issues, or anxiety, I am here to help. In working with me, you will find a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts and emotions and feel heard and validated. You can also trust that I will help you remain accountable to yourself and your goals. I will challenge you to overcome barriers you face and sometimes meet adversity head on. In this space, and through this process, you will find the tools and mindset you need to create meaningful change in your life. Please feel free to contact me to schedule a consultation or learn more about my services. I look forward to hearing from you!
Who I work with:
I provide individual therapy to adults navigating life transitions. Most folks I work with are facing difficulties with their careers, their academic performance, and/or their relationships. Examples of concerns I commonly see include: - ADHD - OCD - Procrastination - Concentration problems - Organization problems - Poor planning - Time wasting - Intrusive thoughts - Relationship issues (communication and loneliness) - Dealing with difficult emotions - Grief, loss, and coping with the unexpected My approach is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy, but I frequently draw from other theories of practice. People are unique and I find it most helpful to remain flexible in my approach to meet them where they are. It's so important that clients form a solid working relationship with their therapist. When the relationship is rooted in trust, the space feels safer for clients and delivering the constructive feedback my clients expect is more impactful. This is also one reason I offer a free consultation appointment, because therapist-client fit is crucial.
